Michelle Knight. Writer, photographer, programmer, truck driver and general, all round nut case. Life is a journey and that's what this blog will probably end up being. Let's see where we go, eh? ;-)
I was reading another article from another author, bemoaning the royalty situation and the way that things happen on the publishing/discount scene. I won't link it. It says nothing new, because things haven't really changed from the commercial standpoint. Well... they have... sort of... but everyone's going over the same ground.
However, things have changed from the readers perspective and that's a point of view that very few people seem to be talking about.
I look back over the recent decades that I know; over my own life, the time I have to spend and the reasons to pick up a book... but more importantly the reasons to put down a book.
What I'd like to know... if you have the time to comment... is what makes you pick up a book? What energises you to read it? What are you hoping that the book will bring you? And if you are one of the many with large TBR piles... (and I admit that I'm one) ... then why are you collecting books that you hope to read, but know that you might not actually have the time until your retirement? ... or if you ARE getting through them, do you think that you are getting your full value of enjoyment out of them, despite the pace of your reading?
Also, (I know, I'm asking a lot, aren't I.) do you feel like you're looking for a needle in a haystack... and if so, what do you envisage that needle to look/read like?
Feel free to re-post this question, if you think it's worthwhile thinking about.
