Michelle Knight. Writer, photographer, programmer, truck driver and general, all round nut case. Life is a journey and that's what this blog will probably end up being. Let's see where we go, eh? ;-)
Well, the report here is that shortly a tool for automatically censoring audio feeds, like music or audio books, could be on the way - http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/35971895/music-could-start-being-censored-while-you-listen-to-it
There's a toss up here. What worth is access to art, if its emotional power is diminished?
Who is to decide what words are to be censored?
Unfortunately, the system will likely be unable to determine context, so I expect this to be a technological fail, right off the bat.
For example, in the UK the word fag, is slang for a cigarette. It is also used as a derogatory word for a homosexual person.
Words that meant one thing decades ago, let along centuries, mean entirely different things now.
My opinion is that this is going to be another technological fail, especially for works and audio books that are classic works.
