Michelle's corner

Well, draft 1 is done. The whole story is down and came to 61,600 words. The next step is to go through it and check for obvious mistakes, re-phrase dialogue and tune it. I'm about a third of the way through that process now and the word count has risen to 62,200. I hope to finish it this weekend. The re-work alone might see it break 63,000.

Once done, it goes to alpha readers. I call it an alpha stage because I'm currently open to large changes in the story. Adding new sections and tearing some out, depending on whether it flows or not.

I'm a bit disappointed in myself that I didn't get much closer to the 100,000 target at this point. Still; improvement comes in stages and with practice.

Once it goes to readers, I'll have the chance to catch up with some reading, which will be a welcome change.
