Michelle Knight. Writer, photographer, programmer, truck driver and general, all round nut case. Life is a journey and that's what this blog will probably end up being. Let's see where we go, eh? ;-)
Yes, HBO have issued a DMCA takedown order against a 13 year old girl, forcing artwork site RedBubble to take down a picture because it had the words, "Winter Is Coming" on it. Full story here - http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/12/08/winter_is_coming_hbo_dmca_trademark/
Actually, as explained by this web site - http://www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=13f9814f-b56e-4314-8e1b-95215ce60a6d - "Using a DMCA takedown notice to assert a trademark claim may lead to section 512(f) liability" - so HBO, by being a bunch of idiots, have actually potentially landed themselves in a heap of trouble. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot with a howitzer.
That's on top of whatever backlash there will be against this. No doubt George R.R. Martin will probably wonder what damage HBO have done to the brand and I, for one, will be interested to see how HBO tackle all the poems titled, "Winter is coming"... go get 'em lads...
